I AM A GIRL BARBADOS, also referred to as ‘the Community’, was officially launched in October 2014. It comprises of Barbadian residents that have seen a need for change within the minds, hearts and cultures of the girls of Barbados. As a result, a sense of urgency for intervention encouraged the development of a holistic community modelled organisation based around the philosophy: ‘Reach One; Teach One’.
Contribute to the continual progression of Barbadian girls by providing opportunities for empowerment;
Aiding in their overall growth into adulthood with guidance and support, through development of skills, social responsibility, career and fellowship; and,
Invoke a need to create positive change, not only within themselves but within their families and wider communities.
The Community: ‘Reach One Teach One’
Our aim is to promote a safe environment, where girls from every background imaginable are given the opportunity to be transformed and express themselves without agenda. They will be provided with comprehensive educational tools, employment prospects from a younger age, universal health care training, and safety tools to be used both at home and within their communities and the chance to be positioned as future leaders of our region.
To inspire, empower, and provide opportunities for young girls to lead, and create positive change.
To develop a positive shift in community spirit, and built an everlasting sisterhood among girls of every variety of background, locally and regionally.
