This is the basis behind the work we do. We provide mentorship for all girls within our programme in addition to educational upliftment. All workshops and sessions are tailored around challenging the girls to visualise differently in order to be more equipped to make informed decisions on a daily basis, meanwhile developing a sense of unity among the growing network of support.
We create a safe environment where girls of every background in our programme feels apart of a family. The mentorship element of our programme is through: a. One-On-One Peered Support; and, b. Group Support. Our peered model is where a member is assigned to a specific mentee and builds that relationship from the ground up with them and their families; thus creating a big sister profile. The group sessions are normally conducted in the form of 'sister circles' and/or open dialogues.
NOTE: Members ONLY become mentors after a series of training sessions attended and thorough assessments conducted. Non-members are not assigned mentees through the Community; however, are welcomed to join our group mentorship sessions as a volunteer once those opportunties arise.
In essence non-traditional is our style. We use drama, the arts and alternative methods of creativity to invoke change within the girls. We aim to provide different experiences they typically would not be exposed to and/or be afforded the opportunity to. We desire to expose them to environments that impact their vision and future dreams.
Each session undertaken by the Community aims to address the following five (5) main themes:
3. Community Empowerment;
4. Sustainable Growth; and,
5. Social Development.
In an effort to continually raise awareness of the issues and encourage girls to influence progressive change by making meaningful contributions to society, themselves, through hands-on volunteering and peer mentorship we conduct training sessions, usually through the use of drama/improv to bring to life some the challenges faced on a daily basis by girls and/or hardly addressed within society. We touch on the following:
Low Self Esteem;
Body Image Issues;
Mental Health Issues - Depression, Suicidal Thoughts;
Relationship Abuse - Teen Dating & Violence;
Sexualized Video Exposure;
Street Harassment; and,
Workplace Gender Based Biases.
In this Community girls can share and not be judged but at the same time be encouraged to rise above any challenges faced. We don't scold; We mold! We support! We find solutions! We cater for needs!
WE ARE GIRLS...WE ARE ENOUGH!!!
